Why hasn’t anyone started a petition to get Captain Planet back on the air? Children need this! How else will they save the Earth if they don’t have environmetalist cartoons?! Please, if you know any kids who didn’t grow up with Captain Planet, it is your duty to expose them to this beautiful liberal propoganda! It may be our only hope. Also, isn’t Gaia a babe? Also, isn’t that whole scene with the water dripping on her face and then the big drill coming towards her wrought with Freudian creepiness? Stop the oedipal rampage now, Planeteers! via some website called Mother Nature Network |
Mirror Mirror’s debut album, The Society for the Advancement of Inflammatory Consciousness was one of my favorite records of 2008. Their new video for the track “Eugene” has already claimed its place as my favorite of 2009. Spaced-out gradients, sinister clowns, shirtless boys skateboarding through virtual territories, pizza, and 3D trees: what more can you ask for out of a music video? It’s even radder that this piece of cinematic brilliance was directed by the band themselves. The visuals here are a natural progression of their aural aesthetic. Long live Mirror Mirror!

In 1977 a volcano called La Soufrière threatened to obliterate Guadeloupe. After the island’s evacuation, Werner Herzog read an article stating that one man had refused to leave. The filmmaker immediately set out on a journey to the Caribbean to examine the quiet before the storm. If you have a Netflix account, you can watch La Soufrière in high quality instantly. If not, watch it right here. |
Daniel Everett’s got his priorities straight! Who doesn’t want to quit the Internet but never will? Everett’s work mixes the paleo-futuristic aesthetics of childhood memories with quiet ruminations on the emotional impact of an increasingly virtual world. Story of a generation? via Bevel and Boss |

Rudy Bleu, a brilliant blogger who happens to be my foxy boyfriend, is currently gracing the virtual visage of Butt magazine’s blog. Rudy’s recent thrift store find: a killer acid-wash jean jacket, and the flannel undies I gave him for Christmas, naturally prompted a sexy photo shoot. Rudy sent the pictures in to Butt, and they asked him to review his favorite vintage pornos from the video store where he works. Check out Rudy’s Top 5 on Butt’s blog, and see more pictures from our shoot after the jump!
